Former striker Alan Shearer believes Manchester United will only get a point when they visit newly promoted Southampton in their first Premier League game on Saturday.
The Saints have lost all three of their last three games this season, while the Red Devils have also lost their last two. Despite United’s overall potential, Shearer believes Erik ten Hag’s team will only draw.
“It’s a big game for both teams, Southampton need to start getting points, especially now that Leicester don’t seem to be deducting points,” Shearer told Metro.
“Southampton are struggling to put the ball in the back of the net and finish off the chances they create, so when they do they have to start taking those chances. That’s where they have to improve a lot.”
“I think Manchester United have been average this season, which is why there’s been so much talk about Ten Hag, so it’s a big game for both clubs and could have implications for the future.”
“There will be a lot of noise if Man United don’t win this game, especially with Southampton starting the season like this. If United go there without Promotion Ufabet winning or worse losing, there will be one or three times as much noise about the performance and everything at the club.”
“I bet it’ll end in a draw.”
